St. Anne's Church - Tottington |
 |
A Letter
of endorsement received from the Vicar of St. Anne's Parish Church,
Tottington, the Reverend Hugh W. Bearn M.A. Chaplain to Her Majesty The
Queen
'Whatever the size of the task, J Rawson
and Son have always provided service and craftsmanship of the highest
quality. Over the last eleven years I have called upon their services to
carry out both internal and external work for the Parish Church in
Tottington. Some of these have been original designs, requiring subtlety
and precise detail, in a variety of materials. In terms of the execution
of their work, great care has always been taken to ensure that as little
disturbance as possible is caused to the areas in which monuments are
established. In addition to the routine maintenance on gravestones in
the churchyard there are specific commissions that deserve mention.'

George Stanley Peachment V.C. - This commission
combined both bronze and granite. This significant historic
memorial is circular in design and integrates a bronze portrait
relief of Peachment V.C. within a ring of granite. The detail of
both his Regimental cap badge and that of the Victoria Cross has
been cut into the granite and makes it a memorial worthy of one
of Bury's bravest sons. |
|
Memorial Garden Centrepiece - An eight
feet high obelisk weighing nearly three tonnes was erected in
the Tottington Parish Churchyard. Considerable access issues
were overcome with diligence and considerable aptitude ensuring
that no damage was caused to the stone. The preparation of the
ground ensured that the monument is both safe and secure albeit
on a land area of some undulation. The engraving incorporated
the Collegiate arms of Clare, Cambridge is also noteworthy for
the way in which differing styles of font were employed each in
proportion to the other. The Garden was dedicated by the Lord
Bishop of Manchester. |

Gordon Harry Lakes CB MC - Was the
Deputy Director General of Her Majesty's Prison Service. Rawsons
produced a memorial of simplicity and understatement that
reflects this mans life. His CB and MC were cut into the granite
and great detail was once again achieved. The quality of the
work as with Peachment VC was superb and there is a real sense
in which both of the above have become living stones to the memory of the men they honour. |
| Tottington Ex-Servicemen's Memorial - This memorial
incorporates the three service badges of Her Majesty's
Forces, accompanied by engraved prose relating to the men of the
Ex- Servicemens Association. As with the Lakes and
Peachment VC memorial, Rawson's work and materials used
were of the highest quality in ensuring that justice was done to
the subject matter. |
 |
'On each occasion Rawsons have achieved a level of
excellence which is obvious for all to see. In working within
the sacred space of a church building the attitude of their
employees has been sensitive, sympathetic and understanding.
All of the projects mentioned have been high profile civic or
national events, that have been marked with great ceremonial and
media coverage. Rawsons have never veered away from taking on
responsibility for any enterprise I have offered them. I have
always found them helpful, professional, extremely well
informed, courteous at all times and a company that provides
first class craftsmanship.' |
